It is highly recommended that you have a CV drive shaft in the rear on any Jeep that has been given a suspension lift of 3.5 inches or higher.  This is because when you lift any vehicle, the compound angles that are put on your conventional drive shaft that has a pair of joints is excessive. This can lead to vibration and even to failure that is premature.

There are 2 causes of vibration in the drive shaft that are commonly seen.  They are an imbalance in the drive shaft and the operating angles of the U joints.  Drive shaft geometry must be precise.  If it isn’t, you will get a vibration in the drive shaft as well as wear that is excessive and these two things can easily lead to a premature failure.  It is highly recommended that you lubricate the drive shaft every time you change the oil in your Jeep or every time you go through large amounts of water.  Not doing this can easily lead to a failure of the drive line…especially in the assembly of the CV ball.  This assembly should be uninstalled from the yoke of the transfer case for you to grease it properly with a grease gun that has been fitted with a needle style fitting.  It is also important to use a high quality Extreme Pressure or EP 1 grease or one that is compatible and meets the NLGI Grade 2 specs and has an operating range of -10⁰F to 325⁰F.
